A Cry for Justice

Dear Readers*,

I have hesitated with writing about this on my blog but I have decided that if I have a platform, and even a few people read it, I want them to, because it’s the least the Palestinians deserve.

These last 2 months I have been heartbroken at the state of the Palestinian people and often find myself crying at their helplessness. I would like to clarify first and foremost that this is not a war. Not a conflict. The implications of those words suggest a two sided narrative yet the truth is genocide. Israel has demonstrated this by stating their intent to “erase” a village, continuous bombing and referring to Palestinians as “human animals”. Even United Nations affiliated school has been destroyed. . Is the cutting of water and electricity, the usage of white phosphorus, the destruction of hospitals not all war crimes that need to stop? The repeated question at the beginning was of the condemnation of Hamas. But it’s been 2 months of vicious violence now. How can we be debating on whether we “condemn” them or not when there are war crimes being committed, innocent lives being  ended under the guise of “defending themselves”. The truth is, the emergence of Hamas clearly does not matter when the West Bank where Hamas is not reported to be, is facing the same horrors as Gaza. The truth is that the decades of oppression without any international support will give way to violent extremist groups but it cannot distract us from the majority innocent lives that are being slaughtered. 18,000 is the number the death toll has risen too since October 7th in Palestine. And lastly, the truth remains that 4 years ago when the Palestinians walked a peaceful protest without any weapons, a massacre ensured resulting in all of them dead by the hands of the Israelis.

To add on to the utter horror of the situation that children are going through, being orphaned, forced out of their homes and made to deal with death on a daily basis, we are trying to decide on sides. The bombardment of the singular narrative of the western media only showing the Israel story has lead to a 7 year old boy in the US who only just celebrated his birthday, getting stabbed to death 27 times by his landlord simply for the crime of being Palestinian. False statements spoken as facts riddle our lives when the president of the United States Joe Biden stated he bore witness to the fact of decapitated babies which the White House themself had to later debunk. In a world like water information is abundant who do we believe? We believe Motaz Aziza, Bisan, and others on the ground of Gaza documenting the pain of the Palestinians, surrounded by the death of children, risking his life to show the world the truth on instagram. We believe the thousands of videos of Palestinians crying for our help.

But what can we do is the other question asked. We donate money, but only to trusted organisations because we are human and mourn the loss of each and every person. But also, this lies in the smaller things that amount to great value. Boycott big brands like Mc Donalds, Starbucks, Disney+. You think it won’t work but already their profits decrease. Your input does help. And lastly, you spread awareness. Because sometimes people are just blinded and need your help to see past the veil put infront of them.

For my final point, Pro Palestinian does not equal Anti Semitism. And anti Zionism does not equal antisemitism. The Israeli actions do not represent the Jewish community as seen in the numerous “not in our name” marches by Jews. Do not be afraid to speak against Israel for fear of being seen as antisemitic because it simply means you do not abide by an apartheid regime that is committing a genocide before us. The support of Palestinians does not mean you need to be Muslim or Arab or Palestinian. Only human.

Please…Raise your voice,

Zahra

  1. I’ve refused to “take sides” on this matter simply because I do not know enough about the history of the situation to do so and I honestly believe that you do not need to know the reason behind any of what’s happening between these two countries to be on the side of not ending people’s lives. No, I’m not on Isreal or Palestine’s sides because we know that both countries have suffered from this situation, both countries have had people losing their lives – it’s horrible! It’s scary how humans can so easily take the lives of others! We need this to end! We need GOD’s intervention🤲🕯️.

    1. I get that at the beginning yk? But when it’s coming up to more than 2 months of destruction on one side, the statement of “defence” starts to sound empty. I do understand the neutrality but I also think that we have to do our part for humanity and do the research and take a stance because what I see is a pregnant mother with a white flag being ran over by a bulldozer, videos of a child shaking because their whole family has been killed yk? I really really hope I’m not sounding degrading (im looking for another word on the tip on my tongue but I forgot, so this will do!) or anything because that truly is not my intention and I don’t mean any offence at all!!

      1. Yes yes, I do agree with you about doing our part to help our fellow humans🌹. All these things which Palestinians have been going through is horrible! My only concern is that people have started looking past violence against Israeli’s – especially the innocent people who have no hand in this conflict (for the lack of a better word). We can’t make killing Israelis okay when we’re against killing Palestinians. These people are all humans so I feel we should instead be in support of sparing all human lives while also trying to convince those involved to find a solution to the “problem” causing this fighting. That especially also influences me being neutral on this situation.

No need to apologise Zahra – you express your opinions well. Respectfully and I doubt anyone would be offended 😉🤲

      2. Yes I do agree with that -no innocent person should be killed as ‘collateral damage’, no matter who it is. It’s just that many Israeli citizens are being made to think that Palestinians are ‘less’ due to the government which is of course extremely unfair and is similar to propaganda during Hitlers reign simply as it enforced a viewpoint on people without any other option. It’s a question that has plagued me for a while, “at what point does one have to take responsibility” even with a coerced ideology? I don’t know.. So then it becomes hard to look at it from all perspectives with the colonisation of Palestine some 70 years ago, to today’s relentless attacks, to what the Israelis experience. But yes, absolutely no person should be put through this which is really why we really need a ceasefire and some sort of international interference.

      3. Damn right👏🌹!! I totally understand though cause Palestinians are the ones suffering the most from this entire situation. They are the ones who have unfortunately lost their lives and have had their whole lives turned upside down. I just don’t think people should push aside Israelis who have also suffered because Isreal is the one behind the attacks🥀. But yes, there needs to be some sort of international interference. It was done for South Africa during apartheid so it can surely be done for Palestine and Israel as well🕯️

      4. Yes, hopefully something will be done soon.
Oh yes, as a matter of fact, it is South Africa now who is advocating for Palestine in the ICJ in the UN to get all this to stop. They’ve experienced it, and now are fighting against it once more 😊

      5. In God we trust that it shall be done 🤲
Yah, every where you go in South Africa right now you’ll see Palestine’s flags hanging proudly to show our support. There’s been marches, human chains, placard demonstrations etc to spread the word to cease fire. South Africans are really doing all they can to fight for Palestine cause the situation is quite close to home🥀. Hopefully the message to cease fire will be heard and acted upon🕯️

      6. Inshallah (Godwilling 💕)
It’s so good to know that and see full support from countries 🙃 Especially when it looks like superpower nations with power are doing nothing and prolonging it..
